Local Marathon man runs for Age Concern York.

Colin Lea, once an employee of the Age Concern York, will run his 20th marathon in memory of his late Grandmother Ada Evelyn Lea (nee Richardson) Ada, who died on 1st November aged almost 99. She liked to be known as Evelyn. Evelyn volunteered for many years helping Age Concern with its fundraising. She was a much respected member of a team of enthusiastic volunteers who worked at the charity's Walmgate shop and dozens of other fundraising events which together raised many thousands of pounds for local services. Colin will be running the Spijkenisse Marathon on Sunday 13th December. Spijkenisse lays close to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Colin said "I was inspired by my Nanna and how she coped with visual impairment to run my first marathon for the Wilberforce Trust – that was just five years ago. I now feel it is really fitting to be raising funds for Age Concern York as I know how close to my Nanna’s heart this charity was." James Player, Deputy Chief Officer of Age Concern York said "what Colin is doing is fantastic and having worked alongside Evelyn for many years I can thoroughly understand why he has decided to run this marathon as a tribute to her memory. Evelyn was an inspiration to us all and amazed us with her readiness to work on well into her 80’s to enable us to help many less fortunate older people, many of whom were a good deal younger than her."
