'IN
SAFE HANDS'
'In Safe Hands'
offers short breaks to those who look after an older person. It
enables caring relatives and friends to have a break. Our volunteers
do for the older person anything that the regular carer would do,
i.e. companionship, preparation of simple meals, toiletting, coping
with incontinence, moving and handling, dementia and confusion.
There are five kinds of sitting arrangements: daytime or evening
sitting, on an occasional or regular basis.' night sitting up to
two nights a week; live-in care for up to two weeks, and pop-in
visits. All these arrangements take place in the older person's
home. The fifth arrangement is care and accommodation where the
older person goes to live in the home of one of our volunteers for
up to two weeks. A small charge is usually made for all these arrangements.
but help towards charges may be available in cases of need. We also
employ a number of care workers who accommpany the older person
on some form of social outing - a walk,a visit to a tea shop or
pub, a game of bowls or snooker. This increases their social contact
and gives their carer a break. The staff of 'in Safe Hands' provide
information and advice on a wide range of issues which affect older
people and those who care for them. Contact: Our 'ln Safe Hands'
Organiser on 627995 or 621020.
We need volunteers!
Can you spare a couple of hours a week to sit with an older person
while their carer goes to get their hair done, gets some shopping
done or just simply has two hours to themselves?
No experience needed! Just a liking for people. Tel. 'In Safe Hands'
